This movie trailer directly satirizes scary movies by having similar story plots as them. The only difference is that at expected scary moments comedy is inserted instead. An example of this during the War of the Worlds portion of the trailer is the giant robot being an iPod. This adds comedic relief to an otherwise tense, scary movie.
ReplyDeleteThis clip satirizes several different groups, mainly poking fun at other horror movies. Without the audience's familiarity with other movies such as "War of the Worlds" or "The Grudge", the satire would not be funny. As mentioned above, the clip follows several similar plots of other horror movies and adds comedy by mocking them. Also, I found it interesting that the clip poked fun at the "President." After seeming not to care that the world was under attack and many people were dying, he instructs his advisor to remind him to sign the abortion bill.
ReplyDeleteThis clip uses the satire form of parody throughout the trailer, by using similar themes from past scary movies and changing the theme slightly to make it comical. This is complimented puns using the scary movie's name before showing the satirized version of that particular movie.
ReplyDeleteThe clip uses parody as it's form of satire. Each of the individual scary movies that this movies uses are made comical. The creators of Scary Movie used the normally scary characters and plots form other horror movies as the basis for this movie. But instead of just pulling plots and characters, they added a twist of mockery. As stated above, an example of this satire is the portions of the Grudge that are used in the movie.
ReplyDeleteThe clip is kind of confusing. As it's made up with several parts and each of them doesn't have any reasonable connections. At the beginning, the huge ipod makes it like a commercial rather than a scary movie. So does the reaction the actors performed. However, the scene changes so dramatic that it soon becomes a terrible scene. The huge contrast impresses the audience and hold their attention. It also makes some trick about the President. Instead of being care about the dying people outside, he cares more about the children he is accompanied with and the abortion bills.
ReplyDeleteHaving never seen the other movies "Scary Movie 4" is satirizing, It is still an entertaining clip. As Justin said above, at the moments where we're to be frightened, the writers have inserted comedy. This is the main satirical aspect to this film, for it is down playing the severity of the hostile situations in to comedic terms of which the audience can relate to the other movies, and grasp the humor. The part of the trailer with the "President" could also be satirizing our government, or country as a whole, getting at the issue of how our concerns as individuals usually only relate to the "here and now" of our personal lives and situations versus large spectrum issues.
ReplyDeleteThis creator does a great job at making fun of common known scary movies. I realized that the creator would have to know the audience to decide which movies he would make fun of. It wouldnt be funny if the audience didnt know the original movies. The humour they put towards the President stood out to me. At that time, much of society had negative views about Bush. the satire is making fun of what is expected.
ReplyDeleteThe preview uses music that is usually not associated with scary movies which usually use dark ominous music. Instead they play 80's some music from the 80's. Also the trailer satirizes modern things at that time such as President Bush reading a book to children at a school and apple's latest technology.
ReplyDeleteThe movie trailer starts off as a normal scary movie preview would with dark music, a narrator with a deep voice telling a horrifying story, and hints of mystery. From there, it then gets satirical by making fun of scary movies with the director's sense of comedy, for example adding in the iPod where a robot would be in reality. I also didn't notice the use of 80's music in the background until Jacob had mentioned it, and when I re-watched it, I noticed it gave the whole trailer a more comedic feel than as one of a scary movie. I also noticed that they not only made fun of scary movies, but also of President Bush, Oprah Winfrey, and also used the appearance Shaquille O'Neal. I think irony is also used when Ana Faris is in the shower and says, "I can't shake this feeling of, evil," which is comical because she is in the shower, and a shower indicates you are getting rid of dirt from your body.
ReplyDeleteI feel the creators of the movie chose those movies to satirize because they might be the easiest to play off of. For instance the stereotypical scary movie of the woman home alone and receives and ominous phone call from a stranger who claims to be watching her from the outside of her home. This scenario can have so many ways to branch off of and also many ways for a satirist to take it in a new direction and take a once scary scene and turn it into a gut busting comedy.
ReplyDeleteI agree that if the viewer is not familiar with the movies being satirized and can't pick up that this movie makes parodies of the plots of other movies, Scary Movie is unlikely to be as funny as it would be to a viewer who is familiar with the movies in it that are satirized. I feel that Scary Movie satirizes other movies by choosing films that are portrayed in a serious way and showing that portraying them in a comical sense they can take on a whole new meaning or several new meanings. For example, the Saw movies themselves terrify most of the audience and captivate them into a sense of danger, but in Scary Movie it shows that such a game in real life is so unrealistic. So, it is ironic that it is called Scary Movie at all because it makes movies that are supposed to be originally scary seem really laughable, and Scary Movie itself has an air of comedy too.
ReplyDeleteI believe this clip does a good job exemplifying satire by using parodies to make fun of other movies by exaggerating their plots to add humor. In addition to that, I think that the creator chose to base it's plot off of these particular movies because at the time they were popular, along with George Bush being the current President. I think the creator used this information to intergrate and display current issues from that specific time. ex) President Bush and technolgy (iPod)
ReplyDeleteThe reasons the creator of scary movie chose these movies to satirize are because they are all very popular and easy to satirize. Instead of doing what a stereotypical scary movie would do at certain point in the plot, they throw in comedy to make fun of the similarity of scary movies. Everyone says that they would survive much longer than the people in the movie because they would make more logical decisions. Most of the time the decisions could pertain to any scary movie.
ReplyDeleteThe movie is satirical in such ways that it makes fun of a bunch of other movies, it is a mix up of all kinds of different scary movies. The creators picked these movies because they are the scary movies some people don't want to see but by making jokes durring it and making it satirical it makes it easier to watch. The movies that are portrayed are not funny movies, they are all serious movies but the creators point out some of the funny things that could have happend durring the movies.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the creators chose these movies because they fall under the category of "scary movie" and as a whole weren't very scary in all reality. These movies are satirized by when they show the triPod and it eases the fear with 80's music then they get attacked as it turns to destroy humanity playlist. The creators have done a great job of satirizing these movies because they show how un-scary the movies actually are and make fun of the minor details in the movies that they feel didn't live up to expectations.
ReplyDeletei agree that the music has a lot to do with this movie trailer. in real scary movies the part that makes the scene scary is actually the music. This movie trailer is making fun of the actual scary movies by playing funny music instead of scary music. thats why this trailer made me laugh because in the "scary scenes" funny music was playing.
DeleteThe movie combines with many classical clips from several famous thrillers and expreees them in funny ways to make the movie become a comdy. The director seems make a joke on those horror movies to satirize the way those movies try to scary audiences. In addition, the movie implies that horror movies can be not scary at all and can pacify those who were shocked by real thrillers. I think they do a good job to chose several characteristic horror movies and make fun on them.
ReplyDeleteIt has been discussed how someone could still find this funny even if they haven't seen the movies being parodied but do you think that extreme fans of those movies are ok with the parody? Do you think people who only like scary movies and don't like comedies still find some humor it this?
ReplyDeleteThe creators satirize other movies by piling them all together into one movie. It uses the main plots of all the movies to criticize and make fun of the films. The title is also ironic because the title is Scary Movie but the movie is supposed to be a comedy. It also lives up to being a scary movie because all of the movies that are parodied are actually scary movies.
ReplyDeleteThis "Scary movie" collects recent famous scary movies and parodies them all at one time. This trailer does not make me laugh, instead, I find those real scary movies might not be better than this "scary movie", because those scary movies in cinema are always telling the similar story types and use same scary factors to scary their audiences. I think the trail could draw movie makers attention and suggest them to make novel scary movies.
ReplyDeleteThe "Scary Movie" trailer is a parody of recent, popular scary films that is use to make fun of the entire genre of horror. Horror films tend to be unrealistic and badly acted, so it makes for a ideal target to satirize. The movie uses ideas like the giant iPod and the monster shaving the lady's armpits to make the plot as ridiculous as possible, which in turn makes the horror-films it makes fun of seem ridiculous.
